History of Hertford College AFC

Hertford became the first college to retain the Cuppers trophy when they won the competition in 1884/85 and 1885/86. They have won Cuppers a further 4 times, most recently in 1988/89. Despite this steady performance and large number of Blues to have passed through the college (their total of 50 Blues players is 4th behind Oriel, St Edmund Hall and Brasenose), they have only had very limited success in the league. Indeed the Division two title in 1983/84 was the only league championship recorded prior to the 2006/07 season. In that year, Hertford put behind them 2 successive relegations that had seen them drop from the top to bottom tiers of college football to win the title by 5 points from Exeter.
